Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
