It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The top summits have long been mastered.

We're talking about the squad that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to another six T20 titles, and once went over three years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, those for the peak baggers, are the only things left for a team that has won it all.

The fact it required as late as Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, regaining their record for the largest in the women's 50-over format, is, honestly, a tribute to the bowlers that have represented Australia over the last half-century.

It is hard for their hitters to maintain a record if never given the opportunity.

Finally, the outcome of Australia giving up 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy receiving a platform to create her most recent brilliance.

Then best known as the 19-year-old niece of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after Australia failed to win either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups from the prior year and has seen it all through 15 successful years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup came three months after her bow and seven world titles have followed from 10 attempts across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India momentarily interrupted the successful run.

That loss "drove us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy stated recently.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the final and was awarded tournament MVP. She ensured her country would not come up short.

Whether this newest brilliant performance exceeded that prior achievement remains open for discussion.

Some will argue the case for championship match pressure. Different voices suggest with the challenge that comes when facing a record target and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's clear is this ton was much more difficult to see coming.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 came as she topped the run-scoring charts, but this performance followed six innings in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've been watching me in training, it was a challenging time because I feel like I've had no rhythm at all," commented Healy.

"Yet the moment you step out on the field, your fighting spirit kick in and you simply focus on the match."

Healy's fighting spirit has continuously been her key asset - and a priceless quality in replacing famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, fallen to the emerging pace bowler in every game, but this time it merely gave Healy's inspiration.

A single was taken off Gaud's first delivery and from that point Healy was underway.

"A chance to take the field and engage in competition with her and simply enjoy myself that way, sort of got me going," stated Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 deliveries - her quickest at a World Cup - and her century in 84 deliveries while she flogged anything short, scoring 21 fours and three maximums.

When she was removed Australia needed 66 additional runs at a run-a-ball - a manageable total now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Pursuing 330 is unfamiliar ground so I am glad we have the belief to achieve that now," continued Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it another time but, if necessary, we know we can achieve it."

These statements will be the ultimate thing Australia's opponents at this tournament should hear.

In recent days a sense they will win from any position has become more firm - this victory coming after success over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite being 76-7 at one stage.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a meeting with longtime competitors England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final berth may likely be confirmed.

It was at that stage they were eliminated from the previous year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a game Healy couldn't play because of torn tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the first time at an important competition.

So great is her will, she afterwards commented she regretted not playing despite the injury.

Yet even as she afterwards confessed those injuries have delayed thoughts of retirement, this championship is likely to be her concluding event as leader in ODI cricket and she is yet to win a global event as skipper.

Victory in India would take her to the summit of her ultimate challenge.
